Electric with maximum technology

Under the name “e-tron”, Audi has created its own family of electric models with high-density batteries and state-of-the-art charging technology. This is because Audi is he one of the key players in the ‘premium’ segment. , and always go to the top of the technical charts. As far as power goes, their first foray was the Audi e-tron, an SUV with an electric motor that went on sale in 2019 after being introduced to the public a year ago.

Readers are aware of the various launches of the brand and are aware of several models, but it should be remembered that there are three versions of this model that differ in electric range and wheelbase.

luxury car

The Audi e-tron is a luxury car, a very expensive model, and a far cry from the average consumer’s shopping cart. Provides smooth operation and instant power delivery. As is known, electric motors are constant-torque motors, which provide all the power that is generated from the moment of starting, without the need to change the development (gearbox) so that it can circulate freely. Electric cars are automatic, meaning they don’t have a gearbox. This is not a problem, but the high level of torque when the gas pedal is fully depressed is a very impressive engine.

According to official figures, the Audi e-tron series will come in three versions with power output from 313 hp to 503 hp and an autonomous driving range of 336 to 436 km.

The Audi e-tron 55 quattro tested has two electric motors producing 360 hp and 561 Nm of torque, but thanks to the “Boost” function it can reach 408 hp in just 8 seconds. I can do it. At that point, torque reaches 664 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The battery is larger at 95 kWh and supports stronger charging up to 150 kW, achieving an 80% charge in 30 minutes. The problem is that there aren’t many fast chargers yet and a normal charge takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Its body has a strange design that resembles a comic or Asian cartoon drawing. The e-tron is a very attractive SUV, a cross between the Q8 and Q5. Dimensionally, it could be between the Audi Q5 and the Audi Q7. It is 4.90 meters long, 1.94 meters wide and 1.63 meters high. That means it is about 25 cm longer than the Audi Q5, but at the same time 15 cm shorter than the Audi Q7. Its proportions are reminiscent of the Audi Q8, especially thanks to the very long tailgate. Available with a decent 600 liter trunk and another 60 liter trunk.

Beautiful and practical design

The biggest difference between electric cars and regular cars is the much lower cooling requirements. All air intakes and grilles in a conventional car are there to “move” air to cool the combustion engine and burn fuel. Electric cars can do without so many openings that negatively affect aerodynamics.

Audi e-tron focuses on reducing unnecessary elements in electric vehicles to improve behavior and reduce energy consumption. One of the most striking solutions is the lack of mirrors as we know them. These have been replaced by two cameras that project images onto separate screens placed inside the door panels at a height where the driver sees what’s going on behind them. It will take some time to get used to at first, but with practice you will get used to it quickly.

Apart from the digital rear-view mirror, the Audi e-tron’s interior is very recognizable. The tool is clear, easy to control and provides a lot of useful information. A practical heads-up display can be incorporated and the multimedia equipment is easy to operate, with very clear menus, excellent resolution and many features that are recognizable at a glance. Air conditioning also stands out for its simplicity, including a digital screen, but it’s free and exclusive. You can also control the rear zone if desired (this may include 4-zone climate control).

The console between the seats is clearly influenced by the controls used to select speed. It’s a little confusing at first, but you get used to it quickly. Also in this area is a practical hole for dropping things, a control for the electronic parking brake, and a start button.

Not overly futuristic, the Audi e-tron’s interior consists of well-designed seats, sometimes with a few tweaks to make them feel very comfortable.

At the technical level, the Audi e-tron is at the top, with headlights with OLED technology and laser illumination, digital instruments, a touchscreen for multimedia systems and a separate touchscreen for controlling air conditioning and ADAS systems. Included… Of course, with all the options provided, anyone can extend and “build” e-tron with whatever elements they want.

The “problem” with this car is the price. Prices are very high and not within all budgets. Also another detail to keep in mind is the power charging system which makes traveling in electric models difficult due to the low number of existing charging points. is. This model he starts at €85,800 and charges twice from Madrid to Donosti.
