The school district announced the new feature on Friday, saying the system will amplify the voices of teachers and students and aid security.

“The best thing is that I can hear my classmates and teachers very well,” says a 4th grader at Bowen Elementary in a JCPS video.

“I have used this technology in my classroom and it is a game changer, especially for children who are hard of hearing or have trouble speaking,” said Dr. Marty Polio, JCPS Superintendent of Education, in the video. “This is a simple tool that helps teachers keep students engaged.

JCPS has purchased an upgraded model of this system and installed it in the classroom. Officials say the new technology includes a security button that teachers can press for immediate help.

“Knowing there is a button you can press and get an immediate response is reassuring,” said Sherina Urrutia, a teacher at Bowen Elementary School.

In addition to system upgrades, JCPS will update the school’s public address and bell system.
