Bon Secours Cork Premier SFC’s state of play in Group C suggests that last year’s eliminated finalists Clonakilty and Newcestown will face Nemo Rangers and Castlehaven respectively in the final group game, though neither still have plenty of room to play.
Nemo leads the group with 4 points, Castlehaven with 2 points and Clonakilty and Newcestown with 1 point each.
Newstown appeared to have done enough in this competitive second round in Bandung yesterday, moving one point ahead as the clock slipped into the red.
Still, Newsethtown manager Tim Buckley was very proud, but also said being a double club was difficult.
“We have to play Haven next, but I think both teams should be happy because if we get a draw, we can survive.
“We got 7 wounded. Thank God we have a panel. I hope 3 of them come back. But our submarine – today got 5 We did – all raised their hands to play the next day.Choosing a team is a difficult task.
“We have to recognize that Clonakilty made it to the county final last year. We know they are missing a player or two.
“We are a very young team. Only one player (Tadhg Twomey) is over 30, next is Luke Meade and the rest of the team is probably under 24 or 25.
“For us as a dual club with six games in seven weeks, as a club, we have to sit down and decide which games to play because it’s impossible. We have the same panel of 24 people. Last week, Two broken bones hurling.A week ago a guy playing soccer pulled his hamstring.
“It’s very difficult with dual clubs. And there are very few dual clubs doing that. The rest of them are just doing lip service to hurling. County commissioners have to give us a break.” not.”
Seamus O’Sullivan is another casualty to add to Buckley’s list. So did David Buckley, who had to be substituted midway through the first half.
Without injured Liam O’Donovan, Sean White and Sean McEvoy, Clonakilty trailed by six to two points before halftime approached. Brian White – brother of Mark and Sean – their leading scorer.
Edmund Kennealy is Newstown’s top play and free marksman.
Kennelly and Toomey narrowed the gap from 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval after Audran Bancroft was shown a black card when Clonakilty were reduced to 14 men just before half-time.
They counted their numerical superiority after the break when Kennyaly’s point was followed by the only goal of the game. Micheal McSweeney set up his Jack Meade to lead by two.
By the 40th minute, Newethtown held their advantage to 1-7 to 0-8 after keeping a clean sheet when goalkeeper Christopher White saved from Conor Daly.
Brian White and sub Chris Keneally took a one-point lead over Clonakilty in the ups and downs of the game, but Newcestown’s bench showed no shortage. Gearroyd O’Donovan, who returned from America on Saturday, paddled out, and a brace from Oran Walsh made him 1-9 to 0-11.
The tight contest ended in honors, even when Grimes (who had previously been replaced but returned) reached the leveling point.
