In fact, to date, 51 players have joined NFL teams for training camp and preseason action.
Some of them have already managed to make a big impact, like USFL MVP Cabonte Turpin, who led the Dallas Cowboys to a preseason victory over the Los Angeles Chargers by returning both kickoff and touchdown punts. There are no outstanding players.
