Regions Bank recently launched its annual Share the Good campaign with a back-to-school theme.
Teams across the bank’s footprint collected and donated school supplies, made financial contributions, and volunteered.
But our commitment to education doesn’t stop there. Regions Bank and Regions Foundation are non-profit corporations funded primarily by donations from Regions Bank, dedicated throughout the year to reducing barriers to success and promoting opportunities for more inclusive educational outcomes. doing.
Educational attainment is associated with good long-term life outcomes. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the employment rate from age 25 to her age 34 is higher in 2021 than he was in 2010, and only those with a bachelor’s degree or higher will have him 84% vs. 86%. was. High school graduates and some college graduates had higher employment rates. In 2021, 53% of those without a high school diploma will be employed.
Similarly, in 2020, the median income for the same age group who worked full-time full-time was 17% higher for those with a master’s degree or above ($69,700) than those with a bachelor’s degree ($59,600). In the same year, bachelor’s degree earners earned 63% more than high school graduates ($36,600).
Education is key to lifting individuals out of the cycle of poverty, building wealth and providing opportunities for success in life.
Supporting education and workforce development is one of the key pillars of Regions Bank and Regions Foundation’s community engagement strategy. Specifically for the Foundation, this pillar includes: helping students improve their competencies and academic performance; providing training and resources for educators; providing pathways to in-demand careers; It includes four main categories of connecting to support services. ”
empower students
“Over the past two years, the Foundation has achieved tremendous results from a program that combines academic tutoring and wraparound services that go beyond the classroom and serve students and their families in a holistic way. .”
“During the 2020-2021 school year, the grant recipients served nearly 5,000 students, 88% of whom showed improvement in their academic performance. Compare that to the COVID slides experienced by students without support services.”
To continue this positive trend, the Foundation provides significant grants to organizations with a proven track record of improving academic achievement and providing support services. To ensure that assistance reaches the communities most in need, the Foundation worked closely with the Community Bank’s Community Affairs team to tailor its organizations and programs to the needs of specific cities and regions.
One example is Foundation grants totaling $90,000 to three chapters of Communities in Schools (CIS), a national nonprofit that provides community resources within public schools.
The Regions Foundation provides grants to the CIS to support specific areas of need in three cities:
- Houston: This support allows organizations to place full-time student support managers on school campuses to facilitate campus-wide programs and provide intervention and case management services to students.
- Memphis: Here, the grant serves families with school-aged children. This includes helping to overcome language/literacy barriers, increasing access to health services, and providing access to transportation.
- Shreveport: This grant supports students in Title 1 schools located in the city’s most underresourced neighborhoods.
Another significant Community Foundation education-focused grant went to City Year, an education services program that partners with public schools in high-need communities. This program gives the young person the opportunity to spend her year in a full-time community service position while providing student, classroom and school-wide support.

AmeriCorp members are trained in trauma-informed, culture-responsive practices and serve as full-time “near peer” tutors, mentors, and role models.
- New Orleans: This funding will help deploy 50 AmeriCorp members to provide academic support and social and emotional learning to 4,000 students in six of New Orleans’ most academically challenging public schools. increase.
- Baton Rouge: The assignment also supports the Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) program, with 60 AmeriCorp members serving as full-time student success coaches with a focus on math and English tutoring and behavioral instruction can do.
“We are pleased to support these national organizations whose mandates align with those of the Regional Banks and Regional Foundations,” Self said. “And that impact is even greater if we can redirect funds to worthy programs in the communities where our Associates live and work.”
Training of educators
School staff, administrators and teachers make a difference in academic performance. Regions Bank and Regions Foundation purposefully seek partners who are developing educators to reach their full potential.
One example of this effort is the A+ Education Partnership, an organization that provides a center of best practice for educators to succeed. As a result of working diligently with educators to improve attendance and quality in her Advanced Placement (AP) classes in Alabama, a record number of Black and Hispanic students (1,839 students) Achieved qualifying score in her AP class in 2020.
The Regions Foundation has long supported the A+ Education Partnership, most recently with a $50,000 grant in 2021.
Another example of effective educator development is Teach for America (TFA). This is an organization that recruits a “crew” who promises to teach her two years in low-income communities.
Recent Regions Foundation grants to TFA’s three chapters help continue this important work.
- Alabama: A $55,000 grant was awarded to TFA Alabama to support three key areas: teacher recruitment, virtual and in-person teacher training, and assessment to measure teacher impact on student performance.
- South Carolina: A second recent TFA grant of $20,000 was submitted to the organization’s South Carolina chapter. The funds will help the chapter extend its professional development to first-year teachers, increase effectiveness in the classroom, and reduce disruptive teacher turnover.
- Louisiana: The Regions Foundation has provided the Southern Louisiana chapter with $35,000 to support its new Alumni Fellowship Program. The goal is to recruit experienced teachers to serve in the rural areas of Baton Rouge and neighboring East He Feliciana, Pointe Coupie and Donaldsonville.
“Our support for programs that directly benefit students and educators reflects the Community Foundation’s mission to make lives better and our goal to create shared value,” said Self. I was.
“The focus of our community-embedded teams on our efforts and strong relationships with our community partners enables us to make investments that make a real difference and foster inclusive prosperity. I can do it.”
