County awards $1.6 million in grants for workforce issues
Larimer County has awarded over $1.6 million in competitive grants to help fund impactful solutions to the local workforce challenges of hiring, training, and skills development.
Target populations for the project’s funding include people of color, youth, workers over the age of 55, immigrants, single parents and all job seekers, according to the news release.
“Larimar County’s economic recovery has resulted in significant growth in our labor market,” said a county news release. “Investing in this innovative solution will help accelerate the ability of job seekers to gain careers with self-reliant wages and connect with skilled local talent.”

El Pomar Honors Otter Products’ Nancy Richardson

The El Pommard Foundation recognized Nancy Richardson as the winner of the 2022 Julie Penrose Award on August 9th.
Richardson is a co-founder of Otter Products LLC and founded the OtterCares Foundation in 2010 with a mission to inspire young people to change the world through philanthropy and entrepreneurship education.
She also supports communities through her family’s private charity, The Richardson Foundation, a nonprofit that empowers the rescue and recovery of women and children suffering from sexual slavery, according to a news release. He serves on the board of directors of Rescue Freedom International.
Richardson previously served on the El Pomar Foundation’s North Regional Council.
El Pomar established the Julie Penrose Award in honor of co-founder Julie Penrose. The annual awards recognize outstanding Colorado women who have made or are making significant contributions to their communities through their dedicated leadership, engagement and service.

• Loveland’s Hach Co. received a patent (No. 11,408,867, filed August 1, 2019) for “Sulfate Detection by Barium” developed by Daniel Gustav Mieritz of Fort Collins.
• Amos Power of Cedar Falls, Iowa, received a patent (No. 11,407,298, filed November 15, 2021) for a “removable battery unit for electric vehicles,” developed by seven co-inventors. did. Co-inventors include Terry Zwart of Loveland.
• The Fort Collins Grace Upon Grace Project received a donation of $10,000 from Fort Collins Insurance. Local organizations tackle the roots of social inequalities while providing underserved families and babies with diapers, wipes and sanitary products so they can live and grow with grace and dignity. A donation of $10,000 will fund the launch of the project’s Northern Colorado program. The program will help students suffering from chronic period poverty in communities who have not had access to the items they need by providing 3 months of period kits. These funds will also help launch the Grace Upon Grace Project pilot program to ensure equitable access to sanitary products in school restrooms.

• Opera Fort Collins has hired Stephen Aguiro Albuez as its new artistic director. He has worked as a conductor, vocal coach, chorus master, recitalist and producer, and has performed as a solo and co-pianist in Spain, Italy, Peru and the United States, and has been involved in over 60 opera productions.
