San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmy Ward was the Rams’ best in almost every way through nearly three full games last season.
San Francisco dominated the two-game regular season series. Ward intercepted Rams quarterback Matthew his Stafford twice in the first meeting at Levi’s Stadium and took his one home in a commanding 31-10 victory. rice field.
The Niners then secured a playoff spot with a season-saving overtime victory in Week 18, outscoring the Rams 24–7 in the second half at SoFi Stadium. The win paved the way for the NFC Championship, where he saw two division rivals reunite for a shot at the Super Bowl.
This time, the Niners had an early upper hand. Ward picked Stafford because the Rams were close to scoring inside the 3-yard line. The play gave San Francisco his 17-7 lead, and the team maintained this dominance until the end of the third quarter.
But then LA got their revenge, pulling away in the fourth round to win 20-17 and advance to the Super Bowl.
In a recent interview with CBS Bay Area, Ward didn’t hold back the disrespect he felt about how the Rams changed their postgame demeanor following their NFC title fight.
According to Ward, the Rams displayed poor sportsmanship in their previous two losses against the Niners, refusing to shake hands. .
“As far as the Rams go, they beat us in the big game,” Ward said. “It was right before the big show. They wanted to shake hands and do it all if they won, but when they won twice in the season they didn’t want to shake hands and walked away. Sport is bad.” But you know, okay, okay.”
Ward didn’t specifically point out anyone was wrong, but did go out of his way to praise Rams receiver Cooper Cupp.

“I felt like they were doing it the wrong way, but it wasn’t for everyone,” Ward said. A great guy, but I still don’t like him when we’re on the field.”
As expected, Ward has been unfavorable to other NFC West rivals. The Rams seem to be at the top of his dislike list.
“They, Arizona, Seattle, whoever it is. My team and I are ready and we don’t like them. We’re not friends.. It’s about getting the job done.” is.”
Ward, who will be off the injury list for at least the first four weeks of the season as he deals with a hamstring injury, will miss the Niners’ first game of the season against the Rams. San Francisco will visit SoFi for his football matchup Monday night in Week 4.
Luckily for him, though, the Niners will be hosting LA on Sunday, October 30th for Week 8.
“We get to see them twice every year,” he said. “That’s the beauty of sports.”
